Surge protection insurance. Quality is the best cover

Here at OneClick we’re very proud of our product and we have spent years earning the respect of our customers, that’s very important to us. In fact, it’s vital to our ongoing success. We have made it one of our policies to never intentionally mislead our customers.

Surge protection warranty is a tricky area, we want to give you the facts (the real ones), as openly and as honestly as we can. We hope this will give you an insight into the confusing and often misleading world of surge protection insurance and help you understand how we came to the decision not to offer replacement warranty for any piece of equipment damaged by surge or lightning strike.

Getting the measure of what's on offer

Products that provide ‘Surge’ protection are required to declare to the customer the amount of Jules (i.e. electricity) the product has been designed to protect against. Guarantees only cover the user up to the value of the declared rating.

The methods used to calculate the value of surge dissipation can be open to interpretation. Manufacturers usually err on the side of caution, giving a declared rating much less than that required to protect your equipment from anything more than a mild surge. That means your warranty would be invalid if anything were to happen to your equipment due to a powerful surge. Which we don’t think is very useful.

What you have to lose

Check the warranty small print. The actual value of the insurance might not be what's implied on the box. In most cases we found that if a desktop computer is damaged by a surge you would have to: SUBMIT THE ENTIRE SYSTEM, INCLUDE THE MAINS ADAPTER FOR EVALUATION, and PAY ALL POSTAGE & INSURANCE COSTS.

Where compensation is paid, the company reserves the right to offset any monies paid by any house insurance policy. If a claim is settled, the payment could be subject to a substantive reduction to compensate for wear and tear. This evaluation could take up to six months and any compensation is discretionary. It all seems like a lot of hard work doesn’t it?

Home sweet home

The simplest way is to check your Home Insurance. Replacement is normally covered and none of the lengthy complications or costs we have referred to will be involved. It’s a much simpler process.

Honesty

Hopefully by giving you the facts, all of them, you can understand why we decided not to offer any replacement warranty with our products. It’s easier, more cost effective and much quicker for you to claim on your home insurance. We do however offer a warranty against faulty workmanship.
